LPG Safety Guidelines

Every customer, employee, contractor, and business partner shares the responsibility of maintaining a safe environment. Please read and follow these safety guidelines carefully.

01. General LPG Safety

• Always purchase LPG cylinders and products from authorized Westminster Petroleum outlets.
• Ensure LPG cylinders are installed by trained or qualified personnel.
• Keep your LPG cylinder in an upright position at all times.
• Never roll, drop, drag, or throw LPG cylinders.
• Do not tamper with cylinder valves, pressure relief devices, or safety seals.
• Use only approved regulators, hoses, and accessories that are compatible with LPG systems.
• Never modify or repair LPG equipment yourself.

02. Safe Storage

• Store cylinders in a well-ventilated location.
• Keep cylinders away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, sparks, flames, and other ignition sources.
• Do not store LPG cylinders in basements, enclosed rooms, drains, or underground areas.
• Keep cylinders away from combustible materials and flammable liquids.
• Ensure storage areas are dry, clean, and free from unnecessary clutter.
• Do not stack cylinders unless specifically designed and approved for such storage.

03. Safe Installation

• Install LPG cylinders on a firm, level surface.
• Ensure regulators and hoses are properly connected before use.
• Regularly inspect hoses for cracks, wear, or damage.
• Replace damaged or expired hoses immediately.
• Ensure adequate ventilation around all LPG appliances.
• Never install LPG cylinders near electrical switchboards or high-temperature equipment.

04. Before Using LPG

Before turning on any appliance:

• Check that all connections are secure.
• Ensure the regulator is correctly fitted.
• Confirm there is no smell of gas.
• Open the cylinder valve slowly.
• Keep the surrounding area free from combustible materials.

05. During Use

• Never leave cooking or heating appliances unattended.
• Keep children away from LPG cylinders and appliances.
• Ensure proper ventilation while using LPG.
• Turn off the cylinder valve when appliances are not in use.
• Avoid placing flammable items near burners or heating equipment.
• Never use open flames to check for gas leaks.

06. Detecting Gas Leaks

LPG has a distinctive odor to help identify leaks. If you smell gas:

1. Remain calm.
2. Do not light matches, candles, or cigarettes.
3. Do not operate electrical switches, doorbells, or appliances.
4. Turn off the LPG cylinder valve immediately if it is safe to do so.
5. Open doors and windows to ventilate the area.
6. Evacuate everyone from the premises if the smell is strong.
7. Contact Westminster Petroleum or emergency services from a safe location.
8. Do not re-enter the premises until the area has been declared safe.

Note: To check for leaks, use a soap-and-water solution on connections. Bubbling indicates a leak. Never use a flame to test for leaks.

07. Transportation Safety

• Transport cylinders in an upright position.
• Secure cylinders to prevent movement during transport.
• Ensure valve protection caps are fitted where applicable.
• Never transport leaking or damaged cylinders.
• Avoid leaving LPG cylinders inside closed vehicles for extended periods, especially in hot weather.

08. Cylinder Inspection

Before accepting or using an LPG cylinder:

• Verify that the safety seal is intact.
• Check for dents, corrosion, or physical damage.
• Ensure the valve is undamaged.
• Confirm there are no visible gas leaks.
• Do not use cylinders that appear damaged or defective.

Report any concerns immediately to Westminster Petroleum.

09. Fire Safety

If a fire occurs:

• Evacuate the area immediately.
• Call the local fire and emergency services.
• If it is safe to do so, shut off the cylinder valve.
• Use only appropriate fire extinguishers, such as dry chemical powder extinguishers, if trained to do so.
• Never attempt to extinguish a large LPG fire without professional assistance.

10. Commercial and Industrial Safety

Businesses using LPG should:

• Conduct routine safety inspections.
• Train employees in LPG safety procedures.
• Maintain emergency response plans.
• Install gas detection systems where appropriate.
• Keep suitable fire extinguishers readily available.
• Comply with all applicable Pakistani laws, regulations, and industry standards.
• Maintain adequate ventilation in storage and operating areas.

11. Emergency Preparedness

Every home and workplace should:

• Know the location of the cylinder shut-off valve.
• Keep emergency contact numbers readily available.
• Ensure all occupants understand basic LPG safety procedures.
• Conduct regular safety checks of LPG installations.
• Maintain clear access to exits and emergency equipment.

12. Customer Responsibilities

Customers are responsible for:

• Using LPG safely and responsibly.
• Following all installation and operating instructions.
• Scheduling periodic inspections of LPG equipment.
• Reporting damaged cylinders, suspected leaks, or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Purchasing LPG products only through authorized Westminster Petroleum channels.
